There’s nothing quite like bringing home a new puppy. The excitement, the snuggles, the tiny paws, and yes, the puddles on the floor and the chewed-up shoes. It’s a lot. And it’s also the most important time to start building the relationship you want with your dog.
At Trusted Tails, we believe puppy training is really about building trust. When your puppy trusts you, learning comes naturally. That’s why everything we do is rooted in science-based, positive reinforcement methods that help your puppy learn with confidence, not fear.
Our lead trainer, Becca Castro, and the Trusted Tails team bring years of hands-on experience working with puppies of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments. We’re a woman-owned company that genuinely loves both the dogs and the people who walk through our doors. We work hard to make every program approachable, supportive, and team-oriented, because training is something you and your puppy do together.
How We Teach
We use science-based, positive reinforcement methods. That means lots of treats, praise, and play. It means building trust through consistency and kindness. And it means zero intimidation, ever. Puppies learn best when they feel safe, and our training environment is designed to make every experience a positive one for both you and your pup.
What We Focus On
The first few months of your puppy’s life are a critical window for learning and socialization. We make the most of that time by focusing on:
• Socialization: Safe, supervised exposure to new people, dogs, sounds, surfaces, and environments during the critical socialization window (typically 8-20 weeks). This is the single most impactful thing you can do for your puppy’s future.
• Basic Manners: Sit, down, stay, come, and loose-leash walking. The everyday skills that make life together easier and more enjoyable.
• Housetraining: Real strategies that work, because nobody wants to be mopping up accidents months down the road.
• Bite Inhibition: Teaching your puppy to be gentle with their mouth, so those needle-sharp teeth don’t become a bigger problem.
• Handling and Grooming: Getting your puppy comfortable with being touched, examined, and groomed. This makes vet visits, nail trims, and bath time so much less stressful for everyone.
• Building Confidence: Helping your puppy feel secure in new situations so they grow into a calm, well-adjusted adult dog.
Options That Fit Your Life
We know life is busy, so we offer multiple ways to train:
• Group Classes: Structured learning in a supportive group setting. Great for socialization and skill-building alongside other puppies and their families.
• Puppy Social Club: Supervised socialization sessions where young puppies play, explore, and learn appropriate social skills in a safe environment.
• Drop-off Training (Puppy Day School): Drop your puppy off with our trainers for focused, one-on-one training throughout the day while you handle your schedule.
• Private Training: Personalized training at our center, in your home, or at a location that works for you.
Why Start Now?
There’s a common myth that puppies need to “grow out of it” before training begins. The truth is the opposite. The earlier you start, the stronger your foundation. Puppies who receive early training and socialization are more confident, better behaved, and less likely to develop fear or anxiety as they grow.
You don’t need a perfect puppy. You just need to start. We’ll be right there with you, helping you and your puppy build a relationship based on trust, understanding, and a whole lot of wagging tails.
